• My first thesis was about crisis politics and ideology in the labour movement in Norway during the 1920ies (1981: 'Hovudfagsoppgåve').
• About the history of a union in a local pulp mill in Norway (1986: 'Sliperisamfunnet ')
• The history of the paper workers union in Norway (1989: ' Papirarbeidernes historie)
• Dr. thesis about work and social milieu in two pulp and paper plants in Trøndelag from 1920 to 1970 ( 1994: ' Arbeid og miljø ved Follafoss Tresliperi og Ranheim Papirfabrikk 1920-1970').
• German social and cultural history (1994: 'Alltagsgeschichte og mikrohistorie').
• Changes in culture and everyday life in streets of Trondheim (1997: ' Veit og gate. Daglegliv i Midtbyen i Trondheim 1880-1950').
• A nordic project about cultural processes in woodland communities (antology published 2000, with english summaries)
• Introduction to changes in historical research from social history to a new cultural history (2002: 'Frå sosialhistorie til nyare kulturhistorie')
• Introduction to historical research, interpretation and narrative ( 2003: 'Historisk forsking, forståing og forteljing')
• Everyday life on a small farm 1971-1973 (2004: 'Astrids dagbok - småbrukerliv 1971-1973' (publ. together with Astrid Karlsmoen).
• About ways of presenting history in forest museums (2005: ' Hva forteller skogmuseene?')
• 'Arbeidsarven' (= 'Heritage of work') - internet site with material about memories and history of work. This project is still active on Facebook.
• Harassing and authoritarian leadership in workplaces - cultural changes in figures of speech about right and wrong in working life( Book Res Publica 2014: "Tøft å tåle").
• Memories as processes - within social and cultural history (Book Cappelen Akademika 2016: "Minner som prosesser - i sosial- og kulturhistorie")
• Forest men. Memories and myths about loggers and log drivers (book Aschehoug forlag 2022. "Skogens menn".
